Best Long Travel Kits for the Toyota Tacoma (2005–2023 and 2024+)

The Tacoma is one of the most popular prerunner platforms around, and it has more suspension options than almost any midsize truck. That's great, but it also makes choosing confusing. This guide breaks down the main Dirt King options by how far you want to go: mid travel, +2" long travel, or full long travel.

Option 1: Mid travel (stock width)

If you want a big improvement without widening the truck, start here. The Dirt King MT PreRunner Kit for the 2005–2023 Tacoma pairs billet upper control arms with 2.5 DCA coilovers up front and 2.5 DCA shocks in the rear. It levels the truck with 2" of front lift out of the box (up to 3"), keeps the stock track width, and has high- and low-speed compression adjusters to tune the ride.

There's also a Trail Runner version tuned for slower trail driving.

Best for: daily drivers who want better dirt-road and desert manners with no fender work.

Option 2: +2" long travel (the middle ground)

The Dirt King +2" Long Travel Kit for the 2005–2023 Tacoma widens the truck by 2" per side and adds more than 25% more suspension travel. The big selling point: it can work with stock fenders on 33" tires with a zero or positive offset wheel. Step up to 35" tires and you'll want flared fenders.

Best for: owners who want real long travel performance but aren't ready for fiberglass.

Option 3: Full long travel

This is the full prerunner setup:

Kit Years Wheel travel Width added Max tire
Long Travel Kit, 2005–2015 2005–2015 13.5" Wider track 35"
Long Travel Kit, 2016–2023 2016–2023 13.5" 3.5" per side 35"
Long Travel Kit, 2024+ 2024–2025 13" 3.5" per side 37"

The 2005–2015 and 2016–2023 kits use 1" stainless steel uniballs at the outer pivots for strength and articulation, and mount the lower arms in the factory location to keep ground clearance. The 2024+ kit uses billet upper control arms with greaseless SilentSpin bushings and sealed heavy-duty ball joints for low maintenance.

Dirt King also packages complete builds as the LT PreRunner Kit and LT PreRunner Elite Kit for 2005–2023 trucks.

Best for: true prerunner and desert builds.

Don't forget the rear

A long travel front end needs a rear that keeps up. The Dirt King Long Travel Spring Under Kit is rated for up to 18" of rear wheel travel when combined with a Dirt King bed cage, Deaver leaf springs and a custom driveshaft. With the factory driveshaft, you still get about 16".

What else you'll need for full long travel

Which should you choose?

  • Daily driver, occasional desert trip: mid travel
  • Want long travel but keep stock fenders: +2" long travel
  • Building a prerunner: full long travel, front and rear
