Not everyone wants to buy a Raptor to get a fast desert truck. A long travel F-150 is a popular way to build a fast desert truck on a regular F-150, and Dirt King makes kits for three generations.
Long travel kits by generation
| Kit | Years | Wheel travel | Max tire |
|---|---|---|---|
| Long Travel Kit | 2004–2008 F-150 | 12" | 37" |
| Long Travel Kit | 2009–2014 F-150, 2014–2017 Expedition | 12" | 37" |
| Long Travel Kit | 2015–2020 F-150 | 12" | 37" |
All three work on 2WD and 4WD trucks.
Coilovers and bypass shocks
The kits need coilovers built to Dirt King's spec. The right ones depend on drivetrain:
- 4WD: FOX 2.5 coilovers or King 2.5 coilovers. Check the product page for the current spring and lower-mount setup for your exact kit.
- 2WD: Dirt King 2WD long travel coilovers.
To add bypass shocks up front, you'll need the bypass shock hoop kit and a set of King triple bypasses.
Supporting parts
- 4WD axles: 2004–2008 or 2009–2020 long travel axle shafts.
- Sway bar: the Dirt King sway bar kit keeps a sway bar with long travel.
- Alignment: F-150s don't come with alignment cams. The Dirt King Alignment Cam Kit adds caster and camber adjustment.
Not ready for long travel?
Dirt King 4130 Upper Control Arms are a smaller first step that improves geometry on a lifted F-150.
The rear
For more rear travel, add long travel shackles, a bolt-on bump stop kit, and a prefab bed cage for rear bypasses: 2004–2014 or 2015–2020.
