The Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 share their suspension, so everything here applies to both. They're one of the best-supported prerunner platforms, with options for every generation from 1999 to today.
Front long travel kits by generation
| Kit | Years | Wheel travel | Max tire |
|---|---|---|---|
| Long Travel Kit | 2007–2018 | 12" | 37" |
| Long Travel Kit | 2019–2026 | 13" | 37" |
| Long Travel Race Kit | 2007–2018 | 17.5" | 37" |
| Long Travel Race Kit | 1999–2006 | 17.5" | 37" |
The standard long travel kits work on 2WD and 4WD trucks (4WD needs extended axle shafts) and use heavy-duty Moog ball joints. The race kits relocate the upper control arm mounts and change the spindle pivots, giving about twice the stock travel for all-out desert trucks.
Midsize trucks: the Long Travel Kit for the 2015–2022 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon gives 13.5" of travel with 35" tires.
Not ready for long travel? Dirt King's mid travel PreRunner and Trail Runner kits for the Sierra 1500 keep the stock width and fenders.
Shocks built for the kit
Long travel kits need shocks built to Dirt King's spec. For 2019–2026 trucks, choose FOX 2.5 coilovers or King coilovers, and add FOX 3.0 or King triple bypasses for more damping control. For 2007–2018 trucks, see the FOX 2.5 coilovers.
4WD trucks also need long travel axle shafts.
The rear: leaf springs, shackles and a bed cage
These trucks use rear leaf springs, so the rear upgrade comes in three parts:
- Leaf springs. The Dirt King Long Travel Leaf Springs for 1999–2018 trucks are a 13-leaf progressive pack that adds down travel and raises the rear 1.5".
- Shackles. Long travel shackles for 1999–2018 and 2019–2026 allow more down travel and are stronger than stock.
- Bed cage. A prefab bed cage mounts rear bypass shocks: 1999–2018 or 2019–2026.
Finish the look
A Dirt King prerunner front bumper finishes the build: see the bumpers for 2019–2022 trucks and earlier Silverado and Sierra 1500s.
